The incident occurred when one truck was on its way from Golbazaar to Malda and the other was returning to Golbazaar from Up with sacks of potatoes. The driver, Jamirul Sheikh of Golbazaar-Malda truck bearing no. NL-01N-2212 was severely injured along with the assistant (Mohammed Taufiq)  of UP – Golbazaar bound truck bearing no. MP-28-8992.

Most of the accidents occur due to the deplorable conditions of the road. The condition becomes worse in the rainy season. This road acts as the primary gateway of state govt’s  import of vegetables, rice etc from other states. Every year the market prices of especially vegetables, fruits and spices go up for a certain period of time when thousands of goods bearing trucks get stranded due to landslides which occurs frequently on this road.

The centre, as well as state, is not taking proper steps to repair the road. Though the fund has been released by the centre to repair the road at the earliest work has not started yet,,, said one of the locals.
