The C Times, 8 June 2017, Agartala: All Tripura School Computer Shikhak Sangha today staged a mass stay in a strike in front of City Centre, Agartala from 11 am to 3 pm against the massive scam in ICT@School Project.
“TheCTimes.com New Website have been frequently posting articles on the massive corruption in ICT@School Project in the recent past and we have learnt about this scam from this website”, said Sri Pranab Debnath(President of ATSCSS).
The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Schools was launched in December 2004 and revised in 2010 to provide opportunities to secondary stage students to mainly build their capacity on ICT skills and make them learn through the computer-aided learning process. The Scheme provides support to States/UTs to establish computer labs on the sustainable basis.
A total of 700 Computer Faculties were recruited in 350 Govt. schools partly in 2008 and 2010. They were given a remuneration of 2500 rupees instead of 10000 which was actually granted for them by the central Govt.(as mentioned in MHRD website) since their recruitment was done by a third party vendor as the state govt. outsourced this project. Their jobs were eventually terminated on 2013 and 2015 citing non-availability of funds as the prime reason.
In today’s stay-in strike Sri PranabDebnath demanded the State Govt.to initiate a CBI enquiry in the ICT@SchoolScam along with the following demands:
Proper and fair investigation of scam/fund misappropriation in ICT@School Project.
Mandatory computer education is a part of school curriculum and be provided in all schools for the benefit of students.Reappointment of the 700 school computer teachers on.
Reappointment of the 700 school computer teachers on the regular scale who are now jobless.
Recruitment of 2 permanent computer teachers for every school.
Pradesh BJP vice president Sri SubalBhowmikand spokesperson Dr. Ashok Sinha was also present in the demonstration to support the cause.
Mr. Bhowmik said, “The UPA Govt. has witnessed its downfall due to corruption and scam and the Left Govt. is following their footsteps. Some CPIM leaders, MLA’s, Ministers and The Chief Minister will be arrested soon for their involvement in various scams”.
“History says, the Left Govt. has never bowed down in front of any agitation/demands so far because of their high ego and unnecessary nature of dominance. So the need of the hour is to uproot the govt. immediately for the sake of the future of Tripura”, said Dr. Ashok Sinha.
