BSNL Employees under “Unions And Associations Of BSNL” for the fifth time have staged a nationwide protest on Tuesday with Tripura BSNL employees organising a mass sit-in a demonstration at Kamanchowmuni, Agartala.
The employees (workers and officers) have demanded to revise their pay scale w.e.f 1st Jan 2017. The pension holders should also get a revision from 1st Jan 2017 and their pension is implemented based on their basic pay. The directly recruited employees should be entitled to 30% superannuation benefit. And the decision to ban trade union activities within the office premises should be withheld immediately.
According to a report, BSNL Management has issued a nasty letter yesterday, the 19.06.2017, to curb trade union activities and to weaken trade union movement. In a detailed letter, the Corporate Management has virtually banned the proposed agitation programme by the unions and associations for the settlement of wage revision. According to the letter, dharna is to be treated a strike. The actions to be taken include wage cut, calling the police, etc. It seems that the BSNL Management wants only “Yes Men” to be leaders of the trade unions. On 14.06.2017, Ms Sujata T. Ray, Director (HR), conducted a one hour class to com. P. Abhimanyu, GS, advising him not to go ahead with the proposed agitation programme. But, she was politely replied that the proposed agitation cannot be withdrawn. On 19.06.2017, com. P. Abhimanyu, GS and com. Sebastin, GS, SNEA, met CMD BSNL and held an elaborate discussion. They pleaded to the CMD BSNL, not to take actions to crush our struggles. However, it is unfortunate that the Management has issued such a letter to crush struggles. When the Executives and Non-Executives of BSNL, tirelessly work to strengthen the financial position of the Company, the officers, availing 5-star hotel facilities and lavish foreign tours, and whose only work is to give “lip-service” for the revival of the Company, want to crush the trade union movement. When such attacks are mounted on the unions and associations, the Non-Executives and Executives can no longer be expected to walk the extra mile, for the financial revival of the Company. The unions and associations will soon meet at New Delhi to protect the rights of the unions and associations to go on a struggle for the settlement of their justified demands.
Com. Ravi Shil Verma, GS, AIGETOA, has already been issued with a charge sheet, for participation in agitation programme. In spite of that, com. Ravi Shil Verma and his comrades participated in today’s dharna outside Corporate Office at New Delhi. While inviting com. Ravi Shil Verma, to address the dharna, com. P. Abhimanyu, GS, announced amidst thunderous slogans that the ongoing struggle of the unions and associations would certainly settle the Superannuation Benefits issue of the Directly Recruited employees, and also would ensure withdrawal of punitive actions against com. Ravi Shil Verma and other comrades.
The BSNL Corporate Management denied permission to Unions and Associations today, to conduct Dharna at Corporate Office, New Delhi demanding settlement of wage revision and other issues. Undeterred by this action of the Management, comrades sat outside the Corporate Office and conducted an impressive and electrified dharna. The police directed the comrades to shift the struggle to Jantar Mantar. But the comrades remained determined and refused to move away.
A comrade said, “Today, we have given a fitting reply to the Corporate Management, which is trying to crush our justified struggle for settlement of wage revision”.
