Anwara Murder Trial – Accused still not convicted

C Times, 21 June 2017, Agartala

A six-member team visited the SP CID’s office on 21st June to enquire about the proceedings of the police investigation on Anwara Choudhury murder since .he prime accused has still not been convicted by the court.

The Anwara Murder case came up for hearing in the court on 9th June 2017. The prime accused CPM cadre Noor Muhammad (42) – Anwar’s Maternal uncle was produced in the court today. After hearing from both ends the court sent the prime accused to judicial remand till 20th June 2017.

According to a report, Anwara was shifted to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) with severe abdomen pain on April 9, where she died due to lack of treatment on April 10. The doctor on duty mentioned that Anwara had died because of a cardiac arrest, and Noor and his family immediately buried her.
“The neighbours and her friends saw fresh blood stains on her nose but when they asked about these to Noor, he became furious and stopped the discussion. Hurriedly, the body was buried by Islamic rituals. Immediately, her friends and neighbours went to the police station and requested immediate post-mortem and forensic test of the body but were thrown out by the police,” alleged Manisha Roy, a college student.

She accused police and doctors of joining hands with Noor to cover the crime committed by him and his family. After the post-mortem report indicated signs of poisoning and the student agitation snowballed, the buried body was exhumed for a forensic test.

Noor Muhammad was arrested after the forensic report confirmed Anwar’s death due to poisoning.

The SP CID assured the team that a fair investigation is on and the accused cannot escape and will soon be convicted.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) also sought a detailed report on the ‘murder’ of Women Polytechnic student Anwara Chowdhury.

The NCW’s member Sushma Sahu yesterday said that “I have spoken to DGP AK Sukla over the telephone and sought a detailed report on the murder of Anwara Chowdhury. If he fails to comply the order, the top cop will be summoned by the NCW in Delhi”.

She also said in bold turn that, “How come two doctors of AGMC declared Anwara death was normal! We want justice for Anwara at any cost”.
