The C Times, 22 June 2017, Agartala: On Thursday, 22 June 2017, security forces killed three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants in an encounter in Pulwama district which is located in Southern Kashmir.
According to the Police official reports, the encounter has started from last evening in Kakapora area of Pulwama district following intelligence inputs, three local men were holed up inside a house in a densely populated locality, who has joined the banned terror group LeT.
The policeman said that this counter-insurgency operation is the first successful in Pulwama area which is believed to have a large presence of local militant aided with a strong network of overground workers.
When asked by news agency IANS, the state police said that the three terrorists were identified as Irshad Ahmad, Shriq Ahmad and Majid Mir. But one of them, Majid Dar was caught up in a number of killings including that of Sarpanch of Kakapora and district president of Pulwama.
The police official said that two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in Sopore township of Baramulla district in North Kashmir. At the encounter, it has been found Two AK rifles, five magazines, 124 rounds, a hand grenade and a pouch.
The successful operation was a big blow to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit, which lost one of its main leader, Junaid Matto, on June 17th at Arwin village in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.
