The CPIM party has started to unleash the beast within them before the onset of 2017 Assembly polls. A series of heinous attacks by the left party members on the BJP workers over the past few days have shaken the entire state of Tripura.
A violent encounter between the CPI (M) and BJP supporters at Satmura area under Belonia subdivision have left at least 50 injured till Monday. The clashes that started since Saturday night only got worse as the day progressed. Section 144 was imposed on adjacent areas to bring the situation under control along with heavy CRPF and other security personnel deployment, sources in the local administration said.
According to a local BJP leader, the conflict started when a group of unruly CPI (M) supporters tried to stop them from setting up party flags on Saturday night. Miffed by resistance, the left goons allegedly launched their offensive on the otherwise peaceful BJP men. The very next day on Sunday the household of one Raju Debnath, a BJP supporter and the active worker was virtually ravaged by a group of left activists.
However, the claim was strongly opposed by CPI (M). Local left leaders at Belonia accused BJP of unleashing a band of goons who severely injured CPI (M) worker Samir Nandi, Arup Banik, DYFI College Square Local Committee secretary Mithun Paul. Among them, Paul was known to be critical. He was shifted to GB Hospital Saturday night itself for better treatment; the rest are still under treatment at Belonia Sub-Divisional Hospital.
