C Times, 26th June 2017, Agartala

The CBI sent a notice to Minister for Social Welfare & Social Education, Welfare of OBC and Science, Technology and Environment Bijita Nath, for interrogation in connection with the Rose Valley scam

The notice was issued by CBI inspector Bratim Ghoshal under Section 160 CrPC (any police officer can call a person for interrogation in connection with a case).

“It appears that you are acquainted with the circumstances of case number 39(S)/2014 registered against the chairman of the Rose Valley Limited and you are required to make yourself available on June 29,” the notice said.

This is for the first time that the CBI has issued a notice to any minister of Tripura.

Nath had denied the allegations against her. She said that in 2018 I had only attended an inaugural ceremony of Rose Valley Group at Dharmanagar along with other public representatives.

Tripura government had raided the offices of many chit fund groups last year and confiscated movable and immovable properties of the Rose Valley group from 20 places in different parts of the state.

The Tripura High Court last year issued an order to the state government to set up a Special Investigation Team to investigate the financial corruptions of chit fund groups and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFC).

Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) who is heading the SIT said, the team was probing 78 cases of 48 NBFCs in the state.

According to reports, Rose Valley chit fund scam amounts to almost Rs 60,000 crore. The scam is believed to be the biggest Ponzi fraud in India and the scam itself is at least seven times bigger than Saradha scam. Rose Valley, as per the ED estimates reportedly collected more than Rs. 15,000 crore from depositors across India, especially West Bengal, Assam and Bihar.

In March 2015, the ED arrested group’s chairman Gautam Kundu after interrogation at his salt lake office in Kolkata. The twin scams are being investigated by the CBI and ED separately. Gautam Kundu was arrested earlier in connection with the Rose Valley scam by ED.

The charge sheets have named several people including Kunal Ghosh, former West Bengal minister Madan Mitra, Srinjoy Bose and Sudipta Sen. the CBI has also filed one charge sheet in the Rose Valley case, naming Kundu and two other directors. Two other MP’s of TMC Tapas Pal and Sudip Bandopadhyay are in the judicial custody of CBI in Odisha.

Confirming the receipt of the CBI notice on 24th June through the state assembly Mrs Nath said that the CBI official would meet her at her official residence on June 29 at 10 am.

She also added that she has no idea of the questions to be asked by the agency and she will fully cooperate with the agency.

According to reports out of 37 lakh people of Tripura more than 14 lakh, people invested money in Rose Valley. The Left govt. is already on a back foot for the past few months due to state BJP’s mass movements and campaigns against the party. At this point of time, the CBI notice and allegations of state ministers involvement in Rose Valley scam is a major setback for the left govt. before the 2018 assembly polls.

Back in 2008, Shahid Chowdhury was axed from Tripura cabinet for his alleged nexus with HUJI terrorist Mamun Mia. Now why the Left Govt. is not willing to take any action against social and welfare minister Bijita Nath? Said MLA Ratan Lal Nath.

BJP and TMC leadership has demanded immediate suspension of Minister Bijita Nath from the cabinet. If she does not resign on her own then the Chief Minister’s intervention is highly solicited.
