A press meet was held by Tripura News Paper Society on 29th June 2017. The various issue was discussed in the conference. The Tripura Newspapers Society (TNS) is an apex body of the newspaper owners and publishers of Tripura.
The discussion was based mainly on their 9 point charter of demands. It included demand for non-implementation of GST and advertisement policy of Govt. of India in the north-eastern states. The society also demanded the revision of the advertisement policy by the state govt. and enhancement of advertisement rate to Rs 400 per col. Cm. The state govt. should also release advertisement amounting to at least Rs 1 lakh per month to the print media. Apart from that weekly newspapers should get advertisements of Rs 2 lakh per year. One advertisement should be issued to eight newspapers instead of four newspapers. Accreditation card and Press club membership to be issued to all participants. Last but not the least display advertisements should be released to all newspapers including weeklies.
Subal Kumar Dey (Syandan Patrika Owner), Sanit Deb Ray (Ajker Fariyad Owner) and Arun Nath (Tripura Observer owner) were among the prominent personalities who participated in the discussion.
