IED blast: One soldier killed, four injured in Manipur’s Ukhrul District

At Kashugabout 11.25 am one soldier was killed and four injured when suspected militants ambushed an Assam Rifles party in Ukhrul district of Manipur on Thursday.

The victims were immediately airlifted by a helicopter to the Leimakhong Army Hospital in Imphal who are yet to be identified. However, the deceased soldier has been identified as Havildar Rohit.

Following the ambush, a large number of central forces’ personnel and police commandos rushed to the area to conduct a search operation.

A similar attack was the IED blast on 3rd June, 3 soldiers injured of Assam Rifles near Khudengthabi along the National Highway 102 on Indo-Myanmar border. The victims were identified as JCO Sherr Ram, Rifleman Sachin and Basumatary.

To maintain the law and order situation in the state and prevent attacks on security forces, the state govt. had constituted a seven-member committee to sort out the issues. The committee is headed by Pramod Asthana, ADGP.

The area has been cordoned off by high-security forces and access to civilians has been denied.
