Six former Trinamool Congress (TMC) legislators, who had been axed from the party last month, were formally inducted into the BJP on Monday at Agartala, Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan premise amid above twenty thousand people’s gathering.
TMC had axed the six MLAs, who had in June 2016 crossed over from the Congress, for anti-party activities after they decided to vote for Ram Nath Kovind, then the NDA’s nominee for President.
MLAs Sudip Roy Barman, Ashish Kr Saha, Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, Biswa Bandhu Sen, Pranjit Singh Roy and Dilip Sarkar joined the saffron party at a public meeting in Agartala in the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, State BJP President Biplab Kr Deb, party general secretary Ram Madhab, Assam’s Finance Minister Dr Hamanta Biswa Sarma and others earlier in the day.
The formal joining will be a bonus for BJP ahead of the assembly polls scheduled in the month of February of 2018. The BJP has never won an assembly in the Marxist-ruled state with the CPI-M and other Left front constituents accounting for 51 members in the current assembly.
A huge rally had marked the public meeting at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan from Astabol stadium led by former Trinamool Youth Congress leaders under Susanta Choudhary and Viki Prasad.
Addressing the public meeting, BJP state observer Sunil Deodhar said, “Tripura Chief Minister always wanted TMC to exist in Tripura for via vote division, CPIM can win in 2018 Assembly Election. But today I am so happy and I can’t express my level of happiness that CPIM plan has been collapsed.”
Bharatiya Janata Party now entered in Tripura assembly with the Joining of Six MLAs.
The BJP is also organising a tribal rally in Agartala on August 9, which will be attended among others by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu. This will be the first tribal rally to be organised by the BJP in Tripura, where a tribal body had last week demanded the creation of a separate state for tribal of the state.
