With the Assembly elections in mind, the Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) would organize a rally near Kumpui Academy, Khumulwng on August 23. The IPFT has not received permission to hold a rally in the Agartala city on August 23.
The rally, which would be joined by huge indigenous people, will be held to mark tenth Tipuraland diwas. Manish Tamang, the convenor of National Federation of New States, Raja Bundela, another leader of the organization and secretary of All Bodo Student’s Union Promodh Bora were invited to join the programme but they did not confirm yet, said N C Debbarma in a press meet.
N C said, “The decision to change the venue from Agartala to near Khumpui Academy was made in a meeting of party’s executive committee. We wanted to organize the programme in the capital town itself but DGP A K Sukla did not give permission citing security reason”.
N C said there was unrest in the capital town centring IPFT’s rally for Tipraland demand on August 23, 2016, leaving several people injured. The government had ordered a Magistrate level inquiry into the incidents and DM had submitted its report on January 12, 2017. Unfortunately, the report was not made public yet.
N C also said, “It would have been better if the report was made public of state are still in dark, who was responsible for the unrest on the fateful day of August 23, 2016.
